Chalet Navauce

Stone and larch in a meadow at the edge of the woods, above Raveo. Two small flats for staying in few, and next door the farm of the people who built it.

Here, luxury means care.

Chalet Navauce opened in 2023 next to the small farm that Davide and Alessandra have run in Raveo since 2016. It is built of exposed stone and larch wood, modelled on the stavoli, the old hay barns of Carnia.

Power comes from solar panels that are not connected to the grid; in winter pellet stoves keep it warm. All around lies a hectare of meadow and woodland at the edge of a beech forest, away from the roads.

The chalet film

From arrival to night.

The valley, the fence, the flagstone path, the meadow, stone and larch, the bedrooms, the terrace and the sheep; then evening and night. Forty-four seconds, no sound.

The chalet

Two flats, one above the other.

On the ground floor, for two: the living area with an open kitchen and a double sofa bed, the bathroom with a step-free shower, the door opening onto the meadow.

On the first floor, for three: a double bedroom and a small room with a single bed, under the larch beams, with a kitchenette and a bathroom. They are let together, for five, or one at a time.

The light

A day in the meadow.

  1. By day the meadow, the fences, the woods.
  2. At sunset the larch warms up.
  3. In the evening, the windows lit.

The day is a real photograph. Sunset and evening are simulations created with AI from the same photo: the house and the landscape do not change, only the light does.

Who it is for

Three ways to stay at the chalet.

  1. 01

Two of you, in the quiet

The ground floor is made for two: the step-free shower, the meadow just outside the door, the woods right behind.

  2. 02

    As a family

Upstairs the small room with a single bed and a cot; outside the hammocks, the ping-pong table and, a little further on, the farm's sheep and goats.

  3. 03

    With friends, the whole chalet

The two flats together sleep five. If you are more, Top Hill Cottage is a quarter of an hour away.

Who welcomes you

Davide and Alessandra.

Davide came to Carnia from Trieste, changing his life. With Alessandra he runs the small farm next to the chalet and welcomes guests in person.

If you have no four-wheel drive, their jeep is there on request to drive up from the village. And then the trails: about twenty, each tried out by them.

  • The jeep to drive up from the village, on request
  • Bread and milk in the morning
  • A guided hike on their trails
  • Mountain-bike tours with local organisers
  • Time with the sheep and goats

Services declared by the hosts in their listings. Costs and terms are agreed with the quote.

The guests

Almost all of them, before anything else, talk about the people who welcomed them.

The score is the one Airbnb shows on the chalet's page: the average, calculated by Airbnb, of all 53 reviews (scale of 1 to 5), read on 7 October 2026; it may change after this date. We do not collect the reviews: Airbnb collects and publishes them, accepting them from people who stayed after booking on the platform; we do not check individual stays. The themes are our own count on the 21 reviews with a comment published on Airbnb in the last 24 months (from 3 November 2024 to 8 September 2026), excluding none: a review counts if it mentions the theme, positively or negatively. In that period there are two critical remarks: the water temperature, adjusted at once by the hosts, and the spaces, described as small. No review was paid for, solicited or rewarded by us; this page is not affiliated with Airbnb. Translations of the themes are ours.

Where it is

Raveo, a village of four hundred people in Carnia.

The chalet stands above the village of Raveo, in the Colline Carniche inter-municipal park. You get there by four-wheel drive; without one, you leave the car in the village and go up with the hosts' jeep, or on foot in just over ten minutes.

How we used AI in these photos

4 photos changed with AI, marked on the photo (2 are simulations). Another 18 in light and colour only. The viewing remains the only reference.

How we edited them

The photos, by type of edit

  • 18Light and colour only, nothing removed or added: that is why the photo carries no label. A generative model does redraw the photo, though, and can get the finest details wrong.
  • 2AI · editedWe removed what is movable or temporary (belongings, people, cars, building materials), or tidied up a bed or a parched lawn.
  • 2AI · simulatedIt shows what isn't in the home, or isn't like that: virtual furniture, plants, a changed sky, a shot widened or recomposed, an unfinished home shown finished.

22 photos have the original to compare: open one and press “See the original”.

The 30 photographs on this page come from two sources: 15 from phone shots taken between 25 May and 17 June 2023 (dates read from the shooting data) and 15 from images previously published online, small (720 to 1,200 pixels on the long side) and without shooting data. 24 of the 30 photographs went through a generative image model (Google's Nano Banana family, used through the Higgsfield platform), in two different ways. In the 10 interior photographs taken with the phone (nos. 11–16, 18, 20–22) and in simulation no. 27 the pixels of the house and of the rooms are those of the original photograph: only the light was taken from the model, applied as a layer over the shot (in no. 27 the sky and the evening light, i.e. the simulated part, also come from the model). In the other 13, small images enlarged up to seven times, the image was reconstructed by the model: the fine detail (wood grain, leaves, flowers, roof tiles, stones, small objects) is plausible, not documentary. Where the model had turned spots of a few pixels into things that are not there (a figure on a tree, a cat and a chair behind a window, a hatch, a lit lantern, a crate with a heart, a drip stain, an ear tag on a sheep) or redrew the solar panels, those areas were replaced with the image from an AI upscaler that does not add objects (Bytedance, through Higgsfield: photos 2, 4, 6 and 10), with the original enlarged without AI (photo 9) or with the same area of the real photograph the simulation comes from (photo 29). There was a single purpose: more light in the interiors, clean daylight in the exteriors, and small images that can be read at full size. Elements were removed from 2 photographs: in no. 20, with the model, two personal objects (a black object resting on the table and a key on the back of a chair); in no. 6, an aerial view, a distant person at the edge of the woods, with a local retouch. All furniture and textiles were deliberately left, as were the lamps as they were (on or off), the pictures, the decorative objects, the flowers, the parasols and terrace furniture, and the materials stacked near the hut in the aerial view. Where an element was removed, what it hid was not photographed: in no. 20 the edge of the tablecloth and the chair back were reconstructed plausibly by the model; in no. 6 the person's place is taken by meadow copied from the area next to it. Nothing else was changed: dimensions, openings, beams, floors, furniture, fences, path, roof and solar panels are as photographed, the views from the windows are the same, the season is the one of the shot (photo 24 is in autumn), and in the real night photograph (no. 26) the stars are the photographed ones: 12 faint dots added by the model were removed. No defects to document were found in the photographs, and none was reduced or hidden: the bare patches in the meadow are as they were. The last four photographs (27–30) are simulations, declared on the image: the same views in a light that was not there (two golden evenings, a sunset, a night with the windows lit). The house, the land, the trees, the fences and the mountains are the same; the light and the sky change, and at night only the four front windows and the existing gable light are lit. The other 6 photographs received only a local light and colour adjustment, without generative AI (two views, nos. 7 and 25, were also enlarged without AI). Light and colour were corrected as in ordinary photo editing. The original unedited photographs can be seen by opening a photo and pressing “See the original”; the visit remains the only reference for the actual condition of the chalet.
